Oct. 20 – 11

Dear Bertha – Camilla is feeling much better. She wants you to get her a thimble and I should get her a silver chain and Mother should get her a big pearl crucifix from Jerusalem which costs eight dollars. I am going in tonight and get it. Yours, Mary P.

I’m not exactly sure what to say about this postcard and message. Philadelphia in 1911 with a rooftop garden restaurant resembling the tropics startled me a bit, then reading the message about Camilla (who honestly seems slightly greedy) also left me somewhat wordless.

Here is some music from the time, anyway – performed by a lady who spent a lot of her time in Philadelphia during this era when it was quite the Place To Be!
