Deer Hunts Man

Soon it will be deer hunting season. Or if things go wrong it could get switched about, as in this postcard above. Not only did the hunter fall asleep but the writer wrote upside down on the card. The only reason I can find is that they were writing about New York grape country – miles and miles of it. Perhaps they had a little taste of the fruit of the vine?

A song popped into my head just now, looking at that photo of deer and man. I have to wonder which of them will end up in the stewpot!

  1. Hello Ms. Postcard:

Would you please transcribe the back of this postcard. So much writing, in fact and compared to what’s on the other cards so far posted.

    Thank you.

  2. I’ve become fairly certain that the importance of the message is sometimes in inverse relation to the words given it, F’Og, but will do. 🙂 Here it is:

Mon. night in Ohio. A fine trip so far. Hot today but made a little over 400 mi. between 7:35 AM and 6:30 PM. Had a wonderful time at U. Wesley’s. They plan to go to Vt. a week from Wed the 7th I believe. You’ll no doubt hear from him. Went through grape country in N.Y. and Pa. today miles & miles of rapes both sides of the road. Starting on at 7:30 in the morning. Beautiful weather so far. Love, Helen

She was quite exact about leaving at 7:35 A.M. Obviously time is an important thing to Helen. 🙂

  3. Fantastic link, ac – thanks!

I can’t imagine, myself, hunting on a full moon. It must be wonderful in ways . . . but given the effects of full moons on the natural instincts of man and beast those woods might be a very scary place. 😀
